More than a thousand water-powered grist, saw, cotton and woolen mills provided food, shelter, and clothing in New Jersey in the late 1800’s. Over the decades, some of the mills were converted to other uses; many fell into ruin; and others simply vanished. Phil Jaeger examines the current state of many of the mills built in centuries past and includes them in a “then and now” comparison.
