THE GRASS MENAGERIE ? fantastical creatures at Reeves-Reed Arboretum will officially open to the general public with an artists? reception on Sunday afternoon, June 14, from 2 to 4 pm and will continue through October 31. This exhibition, co-curated by Barbara Galazzo and Frank Juliano, is made possible in part, thanks to Elisa and Michael O?Rourke, Robin and Cam McClearn, and with the cooperation of Marta Gutierrez and Maria Simonsson, Gallery66 (Cold Spring, NY) and the Rebecca Hossack Gallery (NYC). The artists, drawn from the tri-state area and as far away as Canada and the United Kingdom, include: Donald Alter, Linda Banks, Cindy Booth, Paul Burke, Peter Clark, Carol Flaitz, Dennis Folz, Barbara Galazzo, Marta Gutierrez, Sarah Haviland, Tom Holmes, Anita Jacobson, Rebecca Jewell, Herman Roggerman, Lisa Scroggins, Maria Simonsson, and Jim Smith. Pieces will include ceramic tiles decorated with geckos, butterfly photography, paintings, prints, collages, jet-black life-sized wooden ravens, wire and out-of-this-world fabric sculptures, glass insects, and a fourteen foot lighted dragon fly! Noted costume artists and performers, Annie Hickman and Allynn Gooen, will also be on hand, dressed in super-sized fantastical praying mantis costumes, to welcome arriving gala guests. Together, these wonderful artists will provide the backdrop for Reeves-Reed Arboretum?s major fundraiser, as well as the spellbinding, charmed, and breathing inspiration for the Arboretum?s many educational programs. Their artwork is displayed around the grounds and in Wisner House. Enjoy meeting the artists and the chance to purchase their work, which 20% of profits will go towards the Arboretum!
