Please join the Chatham Township Historical Society for an informative lecture, "The Battle of the Jet Port," given by Nicholas Platt. In 1959, the Port Authority of New York announced its plans to build a Jet Port on an unpopulated swamp in a rural community 25 miles from New York City. It was to occupy 10,000 acres, 3 times the size of then Idlewild Airport, now Kennedy Airport. Mr. Platt"s talk will tell how a grassroots organization made up of local residents stopped this event.
