Governmental Affairs Luncheon with former Governor Christine Todd Whitman
The Suburban Chamber of Commerce will be joining the members of the Summit/New Providence Rotary, at noon on Monday, 23 January 2012, for a presentation by former New Jersey Governor, Christie Todd Whitman. The Governor will discuss her involvement with a newly formed organization called Americans Elect.
Gov. Whitman is a board member of Americans Elect which is a non-partisan, web-based organization designed specifically for the purpose of nominating a presidential candidate in the 2012 presidential race.
Americans Elect will attempt to use the Internet to give every American voter – Democrat, Republican or Independent – the power to nominate a presidential ticket in 2012.
Americans Elect professes to offer a different way to nominate a president, not by the traditional third party route. The nominating process will be open to any qualified candidate and any registered voter, regardless of party affiliation.
Clearly, social networking has already had an enormous political effect in many parts of the world. The so-called ‘Arab Spring’ would not have been possible without the communications infrastructure provided by such Internet based entities as Twitter and Facebook. It just may be that this technology is about to have an impact on our own bitterly divided electoral process. Please join us and see if you agree, or not. For a closer look at Americans Elect, the key members, and the mission statement, visit their web-site: www.americanselect.org .
