From Yemen to Yorkshire: The History of the Jewish People
Fascinating lecture featuring Professor Gary Rendsburg, the Blanche and Irving Laurie Professor of Jewish History in the Department of Jewish Studies at Rutgers University. He will explore the remarkable narrative of the Jewish people across time and space presenting intriguing, but little-known examples on the timeline of Jewish history: a Jewish kingdom in Yemen; a Jew named Socrates who donated a marble menorah to the synagogue in Sardis; What Maimonides served his guests at home; Jacob the Jew who sold his land in Oxford for the establishment of Merton College (where J. R. R. Tolkien would teach 800 years later!).
