Thursday Evening Salon Series Presents:
Burnt Shadows: Visions of the Post-Apocalypse presented by Richard Miller, Professor of English, Rutgers University
When the atomic bombs exploded in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the flash burn effect left the impression of shadows burnt into surfaces behind objects in direct line of the heat radiation. In this talk, Professor Miller will discuss how the image of "burnt shadows" is redeployed in Alan Moore's Watchmen series and in Kamila Shamsie's novel, Burnt Shadows to evoke the contemporary threat of nuclear annihilation.
