SUMMARY:Repatriating Military Service Dogs
DESCRIPTION:"The capability they (Military Working Dogs) bring to the fight cannot be replicated by man or machine. By all measures of performance their yield outperforms any asset we have in our inventory. Our Army (and military) would be remiss if we failed to invest more in this incredibly valuable resource." - General David Petraeus. Dogs have been in combat with US soldiers during every major conflict\, but were not officially recognized until WWII. There are about 2500 dogs in active service today. Until November 2000\, military dogs were euthanized or abandoned after retirement. Ron Aiello of the US War Dog Association will discuss the repatriation of these dogs at the Summit Old Guard Meeting. Guests are welcome.
