DESCRIPTION:The Society of Musical Arts (SOMA)\, a 60-piece orchestra of talented local musicians\, has brought fine music to the residents of Essex and surrounding NJ counties free of charge for over 40 years. Our fall program features two titan composers of the late 19th/early 20th centuries\, Jean Sibelius and Gustav Mahler. Our program opens with Dudley Buck's delightful Overture on the American National Air\, followed by Jean Sibelius' patriotic Finlandia. Gustav Mahler's mighty Symphony No. 4\, featuring soprano Nadine Robinson of Highland Park\, concludes the program. St. Paul's in Westfield provides our beautiful setting. Admission is free\; donations are welcome and encouraged.
