Join Maplewood Garden Club on Monday, February 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker Street, Maplewood when Jenny Rose Carey, Senior Director at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Meadowbrook Farm, will present “Ladies in the Landscape: 1900–1940,” detailing how horticulture changed the lives of women in the early twentieth century. She will discuss the New Schools of Horticulture for Women, the Garden Club Movement, and early garden clubs, and will highlight early female gardeners and landscape designers, including Beatrix Farr and Ellen Biddle Shipman, who left a lasting impact on gardens in America—not only by creating beautiful landscapes, but by breaking barriers so women could get jobs in horticulture.
