Giving Salad Day at SAGE
SAGE’s “Giving Salad Day” Will Provide Older Adults with Healthy Produce SUMMIT, NJ – With Giving Tuesday just around the corner, December 3, SAGE Eldercare is focusing on providing its Meals on Wheels clients with much needed healthy produce through a new program, “Giving Salad Day.” SAGE’s Meals on Wheels delivers meals to older, home-bound adults, ensuring they will not go hungry and have vital daily contact by caring volunteers. Last year Meals on Wheels served 47,000 meals to more than 230 clients in our community. While the meals are nutritious, budget constraints do not allow for inclusion of fresh produce options including healthy salads. To remedy this, SAGE has created “Giving Salad Day” for Giving Tuesday. An individual donation of $100 will allow SAGE to provide each meal recipient with a fresh salad on one given day. Individual “Giving Salad Day” donors will be recognized publicly to SAGE clients and the SAGE community. “These people are not able to shop for themselves anymore,” said Meals on Wheels Director, Marianne Kranz. “To see the look on a client’s face when they are given something so fresh is priceless.” SAGE is seeking community support to ensure “Giving Salad Day” is a success.
