Children's Dance and Educational Panels at Berkeley Heights Vegan Fest 2019
The Berkeley Heights Environmental Commission (BHEC) and Sustainable Berkeley Heights are co-sponsoring its Berkeley Heights Vegan Fest 2019, which runs from Friday, Sept. 20 - Sunday, Sept. 22. This second day of Vegan Fest features a children's high-energy, creative dance class as well as health-focused and planet-focused educational panels (Saturday, Sept. 21 @ 10 a.m. - Noon). Parents, this is a perfect event for you - bring your kids, while learning at educational panels! Jenn Eisenberg of BOLD Arts will lead children in a high-energy, creative dance class. Plus, Lower Columbia Park features a newly-renovated playground. Your kids will have a great time! Each educational panel is an hour-long, free, and open to the public. The first panel, the “Health Focus Panel,” will focus on why a diet rich in fruits and vegetables promotes good health. Among others, the panelists will feature Mitch Bentler, an oncology nutritionist from Summit Medical Group and Lisa McQuilkin, the Wellness Director of the Berkeley Heights YMCA. The second panel, the “Planet Impacts Panel,” will focus on how a plant-based diet helps to promote environmental preservation. This panel will feature Lee Hall, an attorney who is deeply involved in sustainability research for the Encyclopedia of UN Sustainability Goals (Springer), the largest peer-reviewed project on the topic to date; Janette Spiezio, an entrepreneur who makes and sells up-cycled products and is a member of the Westfield Green Team; and Steve Fenster, the president of NJveg.org. Join us tomorrow, too, for the Vegan Cook-off (Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 PM, Lower Columbia Park, 411 Plainfield Avenue.; pre-registration is required for all entries, which can be done on-line at bit.ly/BHVF2019).
